Visiting a Baton Rouge Notary: Common Questions and What to Bring

By Perkins Road Notary

A little preparation can make your notary visit easier. Here are answers to the questions customers commonly need resolved before arriving at Perkins Road Notary.

What does a Louisiana notary do?

Louisiana notaries have statutory authority to receive specified acts, including wills and conveyances, and to handle acknowledgments and other authorized notarial work. The service depends on the document and the notary’s authority. Document preparation and notarization do not replace attorney advice about a disputed or complex legal issue.

What identification should I bring?

Bring current government-issued photo identification. Call if you plan to use LA Wallet, your identification is expired, or the name differs from the document, so we can confirm what is acceptable for the particular service.

Should I sign before I arrive?

Wait for instructions. Some acts require signing in the notary’s presence; other documents may involve an acknowledgment. Bring the complete document rather than only the signature page.

Who needs to attend?

Each person whose signature requires notarization must be available for the required personal appearance. Some documents also require witnesses. Call ahead with the document type so we can identify the required signers and whether witnesses need to be arranged.

Do I need an appointment?

Call to confirm availability for your service. Wills require preparation and an appointment for signing. A document that needs drafting, special accommodations, or several signers may take more planning than a routine visit.

What else should I bring?

Bring the full document, accurate names and addresses, and any supporting ownership or authority papers. For vehicle work, bring the title and relevant sale, donation, insurance, and lien documents. Tell us in advance about a deceased owner, business signer, or power of attorney.

How much will it cost?

Ask for a quote based on the document and work needed. Drafting, notarization, copies, registration processing, and government charges can be different items. Confirm the total and what is included before proceeding.

Can you meet me at my car?

Yes, curbside service is available at our office. Call (225) 341-3828 when you arrive. We do not offer mobile visits to homes, hospitals, workplaces, or other locations. See how office curbside service works.

Where can I verify a notary?

The Louisiana Secretary of State provides notary information and search tools. Ask us for the name of the notary handling your document if you need to verify their record.
