  • Will signings require an appointment. General Durable and Health Care Mandates can often be prepared during a regular visit, but we recommend calling ahead when completing multiple documents.

  • A will signing generally takes 15 to 30 minutes. Document preparation happens before the signing appointment. Full plans and more involved situations may require additional time.

  • No. A succession is the process used to transfer certain property after death. A will states how your succession property should be distributed and names the person you want to handle the estate, but it does not eliminate succession.

  • Not necessarily. Louisiana inheritance rules depend on your family and property circumstances. A will lets you state how you want your succession property distributed, subject to Louisiana law.

  • Yes. Each person needs an individual will and individual mandates, even when spouses have the same general wishes.

  • An independent executor is the person named in your will to manage the succession with less ongoing court supervision than an ordinary executor.

  • No. A Health Care Mandate appoints someone to make healthcare decisions for you. A living will records your wishes concerning life-sustaining procedures. They are separate documents with different purposes.

  • Yes. Estate-planning documents can generally be replaced or revoked while you have the legal capacity to do so. Review your plan after major life events such as marriage, divorce, a birth, a death, a significant move, or a major change in property.
